Social Services Assistant (Security Assistant)
This position is located at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tomah, Wisconsin, a complexity level 3 facility and is aligned under the Mental Health Service, Compensated Work Therapy-Transitional Residence (CWT-TR). The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and take appropriate action regarding the safety and security of Veterans from thereat of injury due to criminal acts, protection of personal and government property and directing response to security and life safety communications, telephone, fire and security computer system. Major Duties Employee complies and prepares Daily Operations Journal (DOJ) putting information into the log book related to events occurring within the program for dissemination of the completed product to various supervisors, regarding related safety and security checks of veterans within the Compensated Work Therapy-Transitional Residence (CWT-TR) program. Incumbent reports emergency incidents, taking appropriate action by entering information into log book regarding security on all types of incidents or requests. Employee monitors entrances, provides immediate and courteous direction and/or assistance to patients, visitors and employees, maintains sign-in logs for visitors to the CWT-TR and ensures that the posted visiting hours are enforced. Makes contact with various local, law enforcement officials for coordination of emergency situations. Work Schedule:

Basic Requirements:
Specialized Experience Includes:
-Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs. -Counselor in a youth summer camp. -Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills. -Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew. -Group activities leader in the Armed Services. -Unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. -Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities. -Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. OR Education:
Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that (a) included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care or (c) was supplemented by specialized experience as described above for GS-4. In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in order qualify at the GS-6 grade level. Specialized

One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the positon. Skill in standardized data processing; skills in operating and security systems; skill in trouble shooting and testing techniques; skill in processing incoming and outcoming calls; skill in interacting with people of varied educational and professional backgrounds. The assistant will be exposed to infected residents contaminated materials and be required to wear protective clothing in isolation situations r invasive procedures. The incumbent will be exposed to residents who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders and required to assist in containing them and preventing harm to the resident, self and other residents.
